Feline Calicivirus

What is Feline Calicivirus?
A common virus in cats that mainly affects the mouth and the upper airway. It spreads easily where cats live together.
What are the usual signs?
Ulcers in the mouth, drooling, sneezing and a drop in appetite. Some cats go quiet simply because eating hurts.
What is used to treat it?
CaliciX and CaliciX Max, both oral EIDD-1931 capsules given at home under veterinary guidance.
What is the difference between CaliciX and CaliciX Max?
Strength. CaliciX is 15 mg of EIDD-1931 per capsule and CaliciX Max is 30 mg. Which one suits your cat is decided with a specialist.
How long does treatment take?
That depends on the individual cat and on how it responds. Your veterinarian and our specialists will set the course with you rather than to a fixed timetable.
Can it spread to my other cats, or to me?
It spreads between cats through saliva and nasal secretions, so separate food bowls and good hygiene help. It does not infect people.
My cat will not eat. What can I do?
Eating can be genuinely painful with mouth ulcers. Soft or warmed food is often easier. If appetite does not return, tell your veterinarian, because appetite is one of the things they will want to track.

Feline Herpesvirus

What is Feline Herpesvirus?
A common feline virus that mainly affects the eyes and the upper airway. It is also called FHV-1.
What are the usual signs?
Watery eyes, sneezing, a blocked nose and squinting. Owners usually notice the eyes first.
What is used to treat it?
HerpX, a 180 mg famciclovir tablet supplied in packs of 60, given by mouth at home under veterinary guidance.
Are injections involved?
No. HerpX is given by mouth only.
How is the dose worked out?
By your cat's weight, confirmed with a specialist before you start. Do not work it out from a human dose.
Can it spread to my other cats, or to me?
It spreads between cats. It does not infect people.
What if the signs come back later?
Speak to your veterinarian or to us before doing anything. Do not restart a course on your own.

Feline Infectious Peritonitis

What is Feline Infectious Peritonitis?
A serious disease that develops from a mutation of feline coronavirus. It appears in effusive (wet), non-effusive (dry), ocular and neurological forms.
What is used to treat it?
GS-441524, given either by injection or by mouth, and EIDD-1931 as an oral option. Which route suits your cat is decided with a specialist.
How long is the course?
84 days is the standard length.
Injection or oral, which is better?
Neither is automatically better. It depends on your cat's condition, weight and how well it takes medication. Talk it through before you buy, because changing course later costs time.
How is the dose worked out?
By weight, and it is rechecked as the weight changes. The dosage calculator gives you a starting point, and a specialist confirms it.
Can I stop early if my cat looks well?
Finish the full course, and speak to a specialist before making any change. A cat can look well long before the course is complete.
